What is a BER certificate?
A BER cert is an energy rating. Click here to see a sample. It is a measure of how much it will cost to heat and light the house, in terms of energy and money, as well as CO2 emissions. It can be used to compare different houses for energy efficiency. It is similar to the energy rating label required when selling washing machines etc. or the miles per gallon figures for cars.
An "A" rating means a very efficient house, economical to heat and light; a "G" rating, means an inefficient house which is expensive to run.
Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEAI) administer the system, and issue the final BER cert after the inspection and Advisory Report has been completed and submited.
The Advisory Report details possible cost effective improvements which may help to improve a building's energy rating. This will accompany the BER cert, both of which can be viewed on the BER register held by SEAI. Click here for more information.
